TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT: PAT ANTHONY!

Pat Anthony

Congratulations to Pat on receiving honorable mention for her submission to the Writer’s Digest 2021 November Poem-A-Day Chapbook Challenge! Every year, Robert Lee Brewer offers this opportunity for poets from around the globe to submit a chapbook of poems written in response to his November prompts. Pat’s chapbook is titled STURM and DRANG.

In addition to Pat, we’d like to congratulate former Bloomers (and current poetic friends) De Miller Jackson (finalist for Losing the Shoes), and J. Lynn Sheridan (honorable mention for Lost).

The winner of the challenge is Taylor Graham, who, though not a Bloomer, is a poet Walt and I and many here have known and admired for years. Her chapbook is titled November Home. Excerpts may be read at https://www.writersdigest.com/write-better-poetry/2021-november-pad-chapbook-challenge-results.

CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN, PAT! We are honored to have you share your talent with us week after week!

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT: CONGRATULATIONS AND GRATITUDE TO DANIEL PAICOPULOS!

Daniel Paicopulos

“Veterans Voices is a wonderful magazine, with three issues per year. It is open to veterans’ submissions of poetry, essays, photography and other art. They allow up to two accepted submissions per veteran per issue. So far, they have published 16 of my pieces, with 9 to 11 still in the queue, accepted for future publication. They always give a small honorarium for published works, and they have also awarded my submissions with eight special prizes, for things like Best Poem, Expressions of Compassion and Understanding, Serving My Country, Encouraging Others to Write, How Meditation or Prayer Helped My Recovery, Personal Story, and Editors’ Choice. While I enjoy the acknowledgment, I always return the financial awards as a donation, thinking they can make better use of the money than I can, even as I remain grateful for their appreciation of my efforts.” ~ Daniel Paicopulos

Congratulations, Daniel! This is such a well-deserved honor. Certainly Veterans Voices appreciates and is happy to share your talent, and also grateful for your generous heart. As for us, we are proud to call you one of our own! Thank you fervently for your service to our country!

CONGRATULATIONS, BARBARA YOUNG!

Barbara E. Young

Congratulations to our own Barbara Young on the publication of her book of poems, Heirloom Language, to be released May 20, 2021 by Madville Publishing!

Heirloom Language is full of poems about life and dying, growing up and growing old; about how being loved transcends endings, and how sometimes anger and irony are ways of expressing love. Reality is defiantly chaotic, and makes some poems partial truths, jokes, or outright lies. It isn’t their fault. That’s how things worked out.”

Barbara is the first to be highlighted in our new Spotlight feature here at Poetic Bloomings!
