BRILLIANT BLOOMS PROMPT #143 AND FOUND POETRY

Another wonderful week of poetic prowess, co-hosted of course by SARA McNULTY. There is a definite trend that has been established and I could not be any more happy at this development. All our go-hosts have taken up the gauntlet and have done extraordinary work in their examples and supportive commentary, making the site theirs for the week. Sara was no less spectacular in this, and for that I thank her. It’s been fun, Sara.

As poets, we let our words dance and project many qualities to what inspires our muse. My motto is… “A Poet Sees Things” and this group certainly does. Finding the living part of everything in nature and life, certainly gave us many outstanding poems, and all of our poets are to be celebrated. Choosing the BLOOMS this week is, as is always said, a difficult task. But we do not shy away from the difficult, so…

WALT’S BLOOM:

The consistency of our poets has never fallen off since the day Marie and I dared to propose POETIC BLOOMINGS as an outlet for such worded wonder. Now, after a couple years, it is encouraging to see new (or relatively new) names adding to our poetic finery. My choice this week is a poem by one such poet. This piece was well written and the emotion that was expressed indeed made this poem come to life.  Priti, your poem “Big Bertha Ruled” earns my BLOOM.

BIG BERTHA RULED by Priti

It was love at first sight
from the moment
we saw her in the window
She was a perfect for us
luminous eyes, swooshy lashes,
zooming feet
thorough bred, broad-shouldered
reflective
with a large heart
and a gleaming girth
We called her Big Bertha

With the turn of a key
she breathed in life
and ruled our world
She pedaled honey in our cruises
steering in
all kinds of adventures
and classic fightings over songs
that made us feel like rock stars

She grew smells of
lavender ketchup
in soccer cleats
as hushed laughter
and wiggles
filled her back seat
She raised us
from kindergarten Falls
to high school blossoms
like a proud mama
keeping a watchful eye
on her crew
with an added turbo kick
that kept us in line
But
who knew
that her doting, fragile heart
would be brutally shattered
and our world would crash
in a split second
All that would remain of her
would be absorbed
in the golden memories
of our growing years——

SARA’S NOMINEE:

This bloom choosing is difficult.  We have a garden with many outstanding flowers from which to pick.  I have selected Benjamin Thomas (a.k.a. poetryshack) for “Time Flies.”  With wonderful rhythm throughout, each stanza is capable of standing alone.  The theme continues, weaving perfect personification examples through each verse.

WALT’S Comment: This poem stands out, but I just want to acknowledge Benjamin’s entire body of work for the Personification prompt. Outstanding and prolific.

TIME FLIES by Benjamin Thomas

Time
Slips from under your feet
Like a rug
Pulled
Like a plug
Until drained

Time flies
With a thousand eyes
Like a bug
With an axe to grind
But hard to find
At times
To smash with a rug

Times flies
Like a hummingbird
At times
Hovering and sipping nectar
Sweet
While you sense the beat
Of simmering wings

Time flies
Erratic
Like a bat out of hell
Thirsty
For blood with fangs
Too difficult to quell

Time flies
In rhythm
Like a butterfly
Fresh out of prison
Anxious
Of enjoying springs wings
For the first time

Time flies
Slow
As the paint dries
The temperature
Low
And you need
A fresh coat of patience

Time flies
Bumbling
Like a bumblebee
Back and forth
Stings
Numbing thee
Right in the kisser!

Time flies
Away
Like a daughter
Astray
Happily to college
Relieved
Even though you’ll miss her

Time flies
In disguise
Like 007 spies
But you’re largely unaware
They’re there
Until you’re robbed
With no time left to spare

INFORM POETS BRILLIANT BLOOM:

Well, there were several contenders, but Sara and I am bestowing  the bloom to R.J. Clarken for ‘Obituary.’  Her source choice was unique, and Vienna sausages of course, are nothing without saltines!  We join in mourning the loss of Harry.

OBITUARY by R J Clarken

Harry Weathersby Stamps,
ladies’ man,
foodie,
natty dresser,
and accomplished traveler,
died on Saturday, March 9, 2013.

Harry is relatable and loveable.
He’s not a man who focused
on a laundry list
of impressive academic
or career accomplishments.
He’s a guy
who ate Vienna sausages on Saltines
and considered it a splurge to get a campsite with a creek view.

We all know someone like Harry,
or perhaps we are
a “Harry” ourselves.

CONGRATULATIONS TO PRITI, BENJAMIN THOMAS AND R J CLARKEN FOR YOUR SELECTION AS BRILLIANT BLOOMS!
